Elders Meditation Native American

“But in the Indian Spirit the land is still vested; it will be until other men are able to divine and meet its rhythm. Men must be born and reborn to belong. Their bodies must be formed of the dust of their forefathers’ bones.”
–Luther Standing Bear, OGLALA SIOUX

It is said when we walk on the Earth, we are walking on our ancestors and our unborn children. This is the relationship Native People have with the Earth. It is this relationship which gives insight into the Earth’s rhythm and heartbeat and creates the feeling of belonging. If you feel you belong to something, you’ll treat it with respect. If you feel you are above something, you’ll treat it with disrespect. Indian Spirituality is tied to the Earth. We belong to the Earth along with all other creatures on the Earth. We must align to this realization.

He really began and ended with the same point – that business is the primary controlling factor in protecting or destroying our earth, or ourselves. The problem is that corporations are “obligated” to make a profit – I learned that when I watched the documentary movie “The Corporation” (highly recommended to watch!)

    (also shown on You Tube):

Corporations are legally bound to “make a profit”, which is in direct opposition to the concept of sustainability. So unless there is a way to change that, I don’t know how corporations could ever take the moral high ground even if they wanted to – it’s a real problem with our free enterprise system. If that could somehow be changed to allow corporations to become more sustainability oriented, rather than profit oriented, we might have a chance. But unless and until that can be changed, they’re obligated to make a profit no matter what the consequences are. It’s really like a runaway train. And defies logic and common sense, let alone morals. Something has to be done to change the way corporations are obligated to be profit driven – I see that as the only way. If they had to account for sustainability as the main goal, wow, wouldn’t that start to turn things around.

    • Dear Lisa:
very well thought out and concise answer. The corporations do rule the world. And it seems like mother nature is trying to change everything. It will be interesting to see what happens.
      Many blessings,
      CB
